Gen Z Thinks They Can Tie the Knot with AI, Ditch Human Interactions: Survey Says

A survey of 2,000 young Americans born after 2016 has found that 80% would marry a chatbot if it was legal, and 75% believe that AI companions may replace human relationships all-together.

In a world where liking a tweet is considered a meaningful interaction, it’s no surprise that 83 per cent of Gen Z folks think they can form a ‘meaningful connection’ with a chatbot. I mean, if you can’t even be bothered to leave your room, why not just date your laptop, right?

And get this, 75 per cent of them actually believe that AI companions could completely replace human relationships. I guess when you’re used to talking to a screen, anything is possible.

Apparently, these digital natives, born between 1997 and 2012, are so comfortable with technology that they’d consider marrying an AI-generated partner. A survey by Joi AI found that 80 per cent of Gen Z respondents would walk down the aisle with a chatbot, if it were legal. I can just imagine the wedding now, “I do” to a screen, tears of joy emoji.

Joi AI, a platform that offers a “sex-positive space for users to indulge in romance, practice dating, and explore their fantasies,” polled 2,000 people in April. They allow users to interact with customisable AI-powered avatars, offering a “stress- and judgment-free alternative” to traditional dating. Because who needs human complexity when you can have a perfectly programmed partner?

And the internet is ablaze with this newfound love. Google searches for “feelings for AI” rose by 120 per cent, and “fell in love with AI” shot up 132 per cent between March and April. It’s a digital romance revolution, folks. Who needs a heart-to-heart when you can have a circuit-to-circuit connection?
